Max — Drums

Guitar lessons and taking part as a drummer during my schooldays laid the foundations of my musical journey. My passion for drums began in 1965 at an apprenticeship camp, where I was drafted in at short notice as a drummer for the evening entertainment. In 1966, a handful of crazy rockers from a neighbourhood in Baden founded the band «Les Travellers» and toured practically every fortnight from restaurant to restaurant, rocking their halls. Back then there were hardly any DJs — just live music. After a longer break from 1975, we revived the old band in 1985 as «The Rock66 Band». Since then I've been running the engine room and keeping the beat… sometimes too slow, sometimes too fast, but usually just right.

I grew up with the songs of «The Beatles», «Rolling Stones», «Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich», «The Beach Boys», «Jimi Hendrix», «Leonard Cohen», «Small Faces» and many more. There are so many great songs that are always worth playing again. That's why I love cover bands.

Iain — Vocals / Guitar

My mum loved music and used to dance in the kitchen. When she was pregnant it was Elvis, Bill Haley, Billie Holiday, Roy Orbison. By the time I was 4 we were listening to The Beatles. We danced to She Loves You, yeah, yeah, yeah. At 9 I sang descant solo in Portsmouth Cathedral during the Christmas Service, up there in the pulpit. So nervous I could hardly walk. I was given an acoustic too big to fit under my arm, the action way above the fretboard. I still loved it. At 13 I bought an electric from a pawn shop. Cheap, with a bent neck. At 15 I was entertaining school friends with Simon & Garfunkel, Elton, all acoustic ballads and songs I could sing. At 17 I formed a school band — Spiral Freeway.

In Switzerland Ruedi recruited me to play bass and sing with the Travellers who morphed into ROCK66 and I moved to guitar. As the Wall fell I joined my friends in "The Government" from the UK on stage in Brno to hit them with British R&B, behind us the US and Confederate flags mounted by the students to challenge the communist regime. This was our '68 moment of rebellion.

Now, after all these years, it's still the music. Music is a journey we share. Every note, every line, a memory. My joy is to bring them alive for you.

Dubi — Bass

My first musical experiences? Pan lids in the kitchen at home and… Heintje on the record player. Then — thanks to my big sister — things moved fast: Pink Floyd (Meddle), Emerson, Lake and Palmer (Tarkus), Savoy Brown (Jack The Toad), Procol Harum (Live) and the Beatles (red and blue albums) hypnotised me. That laid the foundation for my love of progressive rock. Later came Yes, Genesis, Queen, and still later Steven Wilson, Porcupine Tree and Opeth. In the mid-90s I ventured into the thick strings. Teachers & Preachers, a cover band from Gränichen, gave me my first steps in rockier terrain. In 1996, ROCK66 became my musical home — my family. And I wouldn't want to be without them. What a privilege it is to play pearls of rock music with great people.

Nik — Guitar

Years of organ lessons, and later a little piano — the keys were my first gateway to music. In woodwork class, I painstakingly built my own electric guitar. What began as a school project I continued privately: I built several more, and the guitar became my faithful companion.

I fondly remember one of my first performances: as a teenager I was asked to play a 30-minute musical interlude at the Chapi-Wienacht. What started as a few songs turned into a whole evening of music, good cheer and an unforgettable memory for everyone.

I gained further valuable experience in a duo, where I got to know a stylistically diverse range of music — including a performance at the Hallenstadion. In 1998 I was finally able to step in as successor to guitarist Ruedi at ROCK66. A new challenge, a new sound, and above all: a new musical family.

Since then, riffs, melodies and the joy of always reaching for the right note have accompanied me. Sometimes delicate, sometimes powerful, but always with heart. Because there are few things more beautiful than bringing the pearls of rock music to life together.

Beat — Keys / Hammond

As a small boy I fashioned my first drum kit out of tin cans and later earned better money as a drummer playing dance music than I did as an apprentice. But my real dream was the Hammond. However, since there was an old piano at home, I had to take piano lessons — which I would have thrown into the forest if it had been a recorder! Since I didn't practise the piano, I was able to take the junior brass course instead!

It was only in my apprenticeship that I started to enjoy practising! With free lessons at the Aargau trade schools, I learned trombone and it was even enough for the military band. After many years in brass bands, operettas and classical music, I got the opportunity to join BLUESBOX, a blues band with a brass section that was very successful. After that came RED DEVILS, an ambitious semi-professional brass rock band.

After further years in various bands and musicals, I fulfilled an old dream and bought a second-hand Hammond at the age of 55. In week-long courses with Peter Dennler in Ticino I took my first steps on the organ. With Heinz Von Gunten as my teacher I was able to improve my Hammond playing, and I searched the internet for bands and came across Rock66.

Of course it's not entirely easy making music with people from Aargau when you're from Lucerne (!) — but since 2021 I've been playing old rock music with great passion with old men…

Asi — Audio Engineering

In my younger years, people would gladly have seen me at the conservatory with my «striking» piano playing and perfect pitch — but I was drawn to rock and pop music from early on. So bands like Santana, ABBA, Mike Oldfield, Barclay James Harvest, Queen, Pink Floyd and others accompanied me through my teenage years. Later the spectrum widened again — one day at the opera, the next at the Street Parade.

Through my professional connection to music I came into contact with mixing desks. Although they fascinated me enormously, in my wildest dreams I never imagined that I would one day train as a sound engineer and own my own mixing desk. With great passion and respect, I now work as a freelancer taking care of good sound for various bands, events and venues.

I met ROCK66 at the Forum in Seon — the chemistry was right from the start, and I look forward to every concert we rock together!
